History of Muktsar

District Muktsar has come into existence on 7.11.1995. There are three main towns i.e. Muktsar, Malout and Gidderbaha. 236 Village in Distt Muktsar. Total population of this Distt. is about 10,50,511. Total area of Distt Muktsar is 266233 Hector. Every year in the month of January at the time of Lohri a state level fair Maghi Mela is celebrated at Muktsar in the memory of 40 Sikhs , who martyred while fighting the Mugal Army under the command of Mai Bhago at this place. Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji called them 'Muktas' and the place became Muktsar. People in lakhs throng to this town on eve of Maghi Mela.
                              For Administration purpose, this district is divided into three Sub-Divisions i.e. Muktsar, Malout and Gidderbaha and Eight Police Stations i.e. City Muktsar, Sdr Muktsar, City Malout, Sdr Malout, Lambi, Kotbhai, Gidderbaha and Bariwala. Till date the notification of PS Bariwala has not been issued. Two police posts are sanctioned, One PP Badal at village Killianwali (PS Lambi) and PP Lakhewali ( PS Sdr Muktsar), Five Police Posts Panniwala, Kabarwala (Sdr Malout), Bhaikera (Lambi), Doda (Kotbhai) and Bus Stand(city Muktsar) are temporary.
                             This District is part of Faridkot Parliament constituency. There are four Vidhan Sabha constituencies i.e Muktsar, Malout, Lambi & Gidderbaha. Village Badal the native village of Ex-Chief Minister Sardar Parkash Singh Badal is in Police Station Lambi and village Sarainaga of Ex-Chief Minister Sardar Harcharan Singh Brar is in Police Station Bariwala are in district Muktsar.
